Tourism Board chief says Bollywood IIFA awards won’t take place in Kathmandu
Nepal Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi has said the International Indian Film Academy awards will not be held in Kathmandu.
“The event won’t take place now as a parliamentary committee has already instructed the government to this effect,” said Joshi in an interview with Kantipur FM on Wednesday.
The International Relations and Human Rights Committee of Parliament on Tuesday had instructed the government to cancel the plan to Bollywood’s annual glitzy awards event.

Nepal Tourism Board, in association with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, was taking the lead in hosting the awards event in the Capital.
On June 20, a Cabinet meeting had approved a proposal to host the 20th edition of IIFA awards in Kathmandu at the end of August.
But the plan met with fierce criticism as the event was set to receive around $4 million (nearly Rs 450 million) from the Nepal government.
As per a proposal sent by the organiser, Wizcraft International Entertainment, Nepal government was to take care of the airfare, hotel stay and security for movie stars and their entourage, which would have taken the cost to the tune of a billion rupees.
